Water Main Cap

I walk in my home neighborhood every day. I originally thought that the metal used to create the water meter caps had some oxidizing properties similar to copper. The blue color created a patina effect that caught my eye. In the following spring, I discovered that all of the water meter caps in my neighborhood got hit with a new coat of blue spray paint by the city’s water department. So, that disabused my idea of how the recessed metal became blue and how the raised surface was rust color.
