End of Winter

By the end of winter, most of the sewer grates that I walk past are clogged with debris and junk, both from nature and from humans. Streams of cold water rush into the sewer drains carrying lots of road flotsam, some colorful and some drab. We have all seen them hundreds of times. Some of us have raked out the buildup to allow the spring rains to move off the streets. The found objects on this painting came from four different streets. Sewer grates often vary in design, this one is a suburban grate from the 1960’s.
